Every pay stub
All amounts in Canadian dollars (CAD). CPP and EI come off every stub until you hit the yearly maximum, then they stop β so your later stubs are bigger. Most calculators hide this by showing an average.

Annual summary
What comes off a BC paycheque
Four deductions: federal income tax, BC provincial tax, CPP and EI. British Columbia is one of the simpler provinces to calculate, and that is a recent change — until 2020 most residents also paid Medical Services Plan premiums, a flat monthly charge of up to $75 a person. MSP premiums for individuals were eliminated on 1 January 2020 and replaced with the Employer Health Tax, which employers pay. Nothing comes off your pay for it.
That is worth knowing if you are comparing against an older calculator or an old pay stub: BC take-home pay went up for most people in 2020 without any change to tax rates.
BC income tax rates for 2026
| Taxable income | Rate on that portion |
|---|---|
| First $50,363 | 5.60% |
| $50,363 to $100,728 | 7.70% |
| $100,728 to $115,648 | 10.50% |
| $115,648 to $140,430 | 12.29% |
| $140,430 to $190,405 | 14.70% |
| $190,405 to $265,545 | 16.80% |
| Over $265,545 | 20.50% |
BC’s basic personal amount is $13,216 for 2026. The bottom rate of 5.60% is among the lowest starting rates in the country, but BC has seven brackets — more than most provinces — so the rate climbs in smaller, more frequent steps than somewhere like Alberta.
What a BC salary actually pays
| Salary | Take-home | A month |
|---|---|---|
| $40,000 | $33,143 | $2,762 |
| $60,000 | $47,755 | $3,980 |
| $80,000 | $61,157 | $5,096 |
| $100,000 | $75,373 | $6,281 |
| $150,000 | $107,377 | $8,948 |
| $200,000 | $136,274 | $11,356 |
Compared with Ontario on the same salary, BC keeps slightly more at every level shown — about $400 a year at $60,000 and roughly $3,000 at $200,000. Ontario’s health premium and surtax account for most of the gap.
Minimum wage in British Columbia
BC’s general minimum wage is $18.25 an hour as of 1 June 2026, among the highest in Canada. Since 2024 it has been adjusted every June against the BC Consumer Price Index and rounded to the nearest five cents; if inflation is negative the rate holds rather than falling.
At 40 hours a week that is about $37,960 a year gross and roughly $31,627 after deductions, or $2,636 a month.
Liquor servers have been paid the general rate since 2021 — BC removed the lower server wage. Separate rates apply to live-in camp leaders, home support workers, resident caretakers and online platform workers.
When CPP and EI stop coming off your BC pay
CPP and EI are federal, so a BC employee pays exactly what an employee in Halifax or Winnipeg pays. What is worth knowing is when they stop.
EI reaches its 2026 maximum of $1,123.07 once you have earned $68,900 of insurable income. On BC’s $18.25 minimum wage you would never get there in a year. On $90,000 you cross it in early October, and every paycheque after that is larger by about $94 a fortnight.
CPP runs further: 5.95% on earnings between the $3,500 exemption and $74,600, capped at $4,230.45, then a second tier at 4% on the slice between $74,600 and $85,000 worth up to $416 more. Someone on $85,000 or above finishes both in November and sees two small raises in the same quarter — neither of which is a raise.
What this calculator does not include
The BC tax reduction credit. BC offers a non-refundable credit that reduces or eliminates provincial tax for lower incomes, phasing out as income rises. This calculator applies only the basic personal amounts, so if you earn toward the lower end the real figure is better than shown here.
The Employer Health Tax. Employers with a BC payroll above the exemption threshold pay this; employees do not, and it does not appear on your stub.
Working in Vancouver: the city charges, and what they touch
Not your salary. No Canadian municipality levies an income tax, Vancouver included, so a Vancouver salary calculator returns the British Columbia figure — the same deductions you would see in Kamloops or Prince George on the same pay. The city raises its money from property instead.
That distinction matters when you buy. British Columbia’s Property Transfer Tax is provincial and applies across the whole province, unlike Ontario, where Toronto stacks a municipal charge on top of the provincial one. What Vancouver does add is its own Empty Homes Tax on residential property left vacant, charged annually as a share of assessed value. Both are property charges and neither appears on a pay stub. So the gap between a Vancouver salary and the same salary elsewhere in BC is not what you are taxed — it is what the housing costs once you are taxed.
