Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026
This policy explains what information urcalculator.com collects and how it's used. In short: the numbers you type into our calculators are processed in your browser and are never sent to or stored on our servers.
Calculator inputs
Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser (client-side JavaScript). Your income, weight, mortgage figures, and any other inputs are used only to compute your result on your own device. We don't transmit, log, or store them.
Information we do collect
Like most websites, we collect limited, standard technical information automatically:
- Analytics: aggregate, anonymized data about which pages are visited and general device/browser type, so we can improve the site.
- Approximate location: we may detect your country (US or Canada) from your IP address to show you the most relevant calculators. This is not stored against your identity.
- Server logs: standard request logs that may include IP address and are retained only briefly for security.
Cookies and advertising
We use a small number of cookies for essential functionality and analytics. We also display advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our sites and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- For more on how Google uses data, see Google's partner sites policy.
When you contact us
The contact form is the one place on this site where you deliberately send us personal information. If you fill it in, the name, contact number, email address and message you type are transmitted to Formspree, a third-party form-handling service, which forwards them to our inbox. We use those details only to read and reply to your message, and to fix whatever you reported.
We do not add you to a mailing list, sell or rent your details, or pass them to advertisers. Messages are kept only as long as they are useful for handling the issue and any follow-up, then deleted. Please do not include sensitive identifiers such as a SIN, SSN, bank account or card numbers in a message — we never need them, and no genuine request from us will ask for them.
Receipt scanner uploads
Our Receipt → Excel tool is the only feature where you send us a file rather than typing a number, so it deserves its own explanation.
When you upload a receipt image, it is passed to a function running on our hosting provider, which forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API — an AI service that reads the text in the image and returns the vendor, date, line items and totals. That extracted table is then displayed in your browser, where you can edit it and export it.
We do not store your receipt images or the extracted data on our servers. The image is used to produce the result and is not written to any database or file storage by us; the resulting table exists only in your browser tab, which means refreshing or closing the page discards it. Anthropic processes the image under its own API terms and privacy commitments.
Because a receipt can incidentally contain personal details — a name, a partial card number, an address on a letterhead — please upload only what you are comfortable sending to a third-party AI service, and crop or obscure anything sensitive first.
Third-party services we rely on
Running this site involves a small number of external providers. Each one is listed here so you can see exactly who may process data when you visit:
- Cloudflare — hosts and delivers the site, and provides security filtering. It processes standard request data such as IP address to serve pages and block abuse.
- Google Analytics — tells us, in aggregate, which pages are used and on what sort of device. We do not use it to identify individuals.
- Google AdSense — serves advertising and may set cookies as described above.
- Formspree — receives and forwards contact-form submissions, as described in the previous section.
- Supabase — stores the public market data (share prices and historical figures) that our investment calculators read. This connection is read-only and one-directional: your inputs are never sent to it.
- Anthropic — reads the text from receipt images uploaded to our Receipt → Excel tool, as described above. It is used only for that one feature.
These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We do not control, and are not responsible for, their practices, though we choose them with privacy in mind.
How long information is kept
Calculator inputs are never stored at all, so there is nothing to retain. Aggregate analytics are kept in Google Analytics under its standard retention settings. Server and security logs are short-lived and used only for reliability and abuse prevention. Contact messages are retained while the query is open and for a reasonable period afterwards, then removed.
Consent, and your rights
Where the law requires consent before non-essential cookies are set — for example under the EU and UK GDPR — that consent is requested through the cookie controls presented by our advertising partner, and you may withdraw it at any time using the same controls or your browser settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the use of personal information we hold about you, to object to certain processing, or to complain to a data protection authority. In practice we hold very little: because there are no accounts and no stored calculator inputs, the only personal information we are likely to have is a message you sent us. If you would like a message and its details deleted, ask via the Contact page and we will remove it.
Residents of California and other US states with similar laws are entitled to know what categories of personal information are collected and whether they are sold or shared. We do not sell or share personal information for money, and we do not knowingly disclose it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the advertising cookies described above, which you can opt out of.
Security
The site is served entirely over an encrypted HTTPS connection. Because calculations happen on your own device and we operate no user accounts or stored profiles, the amount of information that could be exposed in an incident is deliberately kept close to nothing. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we minimise risk by simply not collecting what we do not need.
Your choices
You can disable cookies in your browser settings and opt out of personalized ads as described above. Most browsers also offer a private or incognito mode, and settings to send a "Do Not Track" signal. Because we don't store your calculator inputs or hold personal accounts, there is no profile for you to access or delete on our side.
Changes & contact
We may update this policy from time to time — for instance if we add a service or a law changes — and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly. Material changes will be reflected on this page rather than announced individually, so it is worth re-reading if you use the site regularly. Questions about privacy, or a request relating to your rights, can be sent via our Contact page.
